Le Killgore

Le Killgore, 82, died Oct. 19, 2008.

She was a longtime political columnist for the San Angelo Standard-Times, and worked for the newspaper from 1972 to 1992, covering news and political affairs.

Darlene Morris

Darlene J. Morris, 65, died Oct. 15, 2008.

Morris was a retired editor, news writer and photographer for the Thorndale Champion. She worked for many years with the late Grace Berry, whom she succeeded as editor. Morris retired from the Champion in 2004.

Elfreda Fette

Elfreda Luke Fette, 91, died Sept. 22, 2008.

She was a longtime lifestyles writer for the Muenster Enterprise, which her husband Ramie Fette founded in 1939 and published until his death in 1986.

Avella Fulkerson

Avella Lura Fulkerson, 82, died Oct. 6, 2008, in Wylie.

She was a writer and columnist for The Wylie News for many years.

James W. Smith

James W. Smith, 78, died Oct. 26, 2008, at an assisted living facility in Granbury for Alzheimer’s patients.

Smith served 36 years as publisher of The Clifton Record — from 1965 to 1973, and again from 1979 until his death. His final title was publisher emeritus.

Smith, who served as plant superintendent at The Four County Press (Evant), The Hamilton Herald-News, and The Meridian Tribune in the early 1960s, owned an interest in The Record from August 1965 until 1973. In 1979, he and his oldest son, W. Leon Smith, re-purchased The Record. Leon Smith will continue in the role of publisher.

Norman Wilson

Norman Quinn Wilson Sr., 77, died Sept. 13, 2008, at his home in Wichita Falls.

He was sports editor at the McKinney Courier-Gazette from 1972 to 1988. He was a freelance writer from 1963-68.
