62nd Midwinter Conference runs Feb. 5-7

TexSCAN, hotel registration deadlines Jan. 12

Get your 2009 calendar and mark Feb. 5-7 now. Texas Press hosts the 62nd Midwinter Conference & Trade Show on those dates at the Sheraton Arlington Hotel.

The 2009 midwinter meeting is two weeks later than normal but the program and events promise the same jam-packed sessions and an expanded 63-booth trade show.

The conference program is nearly complete:

• Sportswriting: How to improve the stories on your sports pages, with Bobby Hawthorne of the University Interscholastic League

• “Intelligent Mail Barcoding: What Newspapers Need to Know” with Margaret Choiniere of the U.S. Postal Service

• Marketing your newspaper, with S.W. “Sammy” Papert III

• Take time to laugh, with Suzie Humphreys as the banquet keynote

• “Saddle Up Your Horses: We’ve Got a Trail to Blaze — The Top Eight Things You Can Do to Grow Your Circulation” with Bailey Dabney of the Claremore (Okla) Daily Progress

• Plus the Texas Newspaper Foundation Hall of Fame ceremony and the silent auction.

Item donations for the TNF auction are needed. Contact Mike Hodges 800-749-4793 to donate.

Registration materials will be mailed and available online soon.

Again this year eligible TexSCAN member newspapers receive one FREE conference registration package — free registration and conference meals and two free nights in the conference hotel. TexSCAN deadline: Jan. 12.

Hotel deadline for regular registrants: Jan. 12. Room rates are $115 per night. Call 817-261-8200 for reservations.

Regular & past president registration deadline: Jan. 23.
